Getting to Cedar Moon and Wildfern Cottage is half the fun! Cortes Island is located about 160 km (100 miles) north of Vancouver, BC. It is one of several islands that form the north end of Georgia Strait, between the glaciers of Vancouver Island and the Coast Mountain range of the mainland
(see maps).
Cortes Island can be reached year round by boat, seaplane, or car ferry. Choose what suits your budget and how much time you want to spend travelling. Flights are available from Seattle, Vancouver, and Victoria to Campbell
River or Cortes Island. Ferries connect Campbell River and Cortes via
Quadra Island. The travel options below are listed from fastest (and most expensive) to the most leisurely (and the most economical).

SEAPLANES
One of the most spectacular ways to travel to Cortes is by seaplane.
Pacific Coastal Airlines flies March through September from Vancouver
Airport; you change planes at Powell River and fly to Cortes Bay (via
Bates Air). Kenmore Air operates scheduled flights from Seattle to
Cortes Bay from May through September. Corilair offers scheduled flights
from Vancouver Harbour to Cortes Bay (June through September). |

AIRLINES
Air Canada & Helijet operate scheduled flights from
Seattle & Vancouver to Campbell River. Pacific Coastal Airlines also
flys between Vancouver & Campbell River. A transfer from Campbell River
Airport to the ferry terminal in Campbell River is available, or you can
rent a car. Alternatively, taxi service is available on Quadra Island
that can take you across Quadra to the Cortes ferry. If you are a foot
passenger, catching a ride with local islanders is a popular way to
travel across Quadra or around Cortes Island.

FERRIES 
There is car ferry service to Vancouver Island from two terminals in the Vancouver area,
Tsawwassen and
Horseshoe Bay. They both land at Nanaimo. From Nanaimo follow Highway 19 north to Campbell River (about a two
hour drive).
There are also car ferries from 3 Washington cities:
Port Angeles,
Anacortes and
Seattle. These ferries land in the Victoria, BC area. From Victoria, follow Highway 1 north to Highway 19 and on to Campbell River (about a four hour trip).
From Campbell River take the
BC Ferry
to Quadra Island (15 minutes). Drive across Quadra Island to Heriot Bay (15
minutes) and board the
BC Ferry to Cortes Island (about a 45 minutes ferry ride).

ARRIVING IN YOUR OWN BOAT
Cedar Moon and Wildfern Cottage are located near Squirrel Cove. If you
plan to arrive by boat or kayak, consult Canadian Hydrographic Chart
#3538. Visitors are welcome to anchor in front of the house (2 mooring buoys are planned for 2003) or beach their kayaks. The beach is protected from all but strong southeasterlies. Secure anchorage is available in Squirrel Cove Harbour. Moorage is also available at the government dock in front of Squirrel Cove General Store.
