Cortes is part of the Discovery
group of islands, which are
considered the jewels of the British Columbia Coast. They are
located midway along the east coast of Vancouver Island near Campbell
River
(see map). For over a century Cortes Island has been a haven for those
independent spirits searching for freedom, a sense of community, a cleaner
environment, and unparalleled natural beauty. The scenery here is dramatic
and varied, largely unspoiled by urban development. An aura of romance and
a oneness with nature is everywhere. The sparkling waters are home to
incredible marine life and in 1996 the HMCS Columbia was sunk off Quadra
Island to become an exciting diving reef. Cortes Island
is also world famous for its stunning coastal cruising, whether by kayak
or by yacht. Wildlife abounds, making hiking and beachcombing enjoyable
anytime of the year. Upon your arrival you will see the snow-capped
Coastal Mountain Range to the east towering over Desolation Sound. Cedar
Moon and Wildfern Cottage are backed by forest and stand on a rocky beach
covered with tidal pools and seashells. When you arrive
on Cortes Island - wilderness, peace and privacy
will surround you. |
